Curriculum
Levels of InterventionPATTAN uses a tri-tiered approach to drive instructional grouping and instructional delivery. The three tiers are designed to meet the needs of a student at his/her specific level of need and provide a framework for instructional delivery. Benchmark interventions are put in place for students at minimal risk of academic or behavioral failure. Strategic interventions assist students who are at some risk of failure; while those students at major risk of failure receive intensive level interventions. A visual representation of the intervention framework is depicted below.
The 3-Tier Model implements three levels of reading intervention (primary, secondary, and tertiary) to ensure that students learning needs are addressed.Tier One is grounded in scientifically based reading/math/behavior research. The program and classroom instruction should address the core critical elements for all students. Primary intervention is provided by the classroom teacher to all students in the general education classroom. It is designed to serve the majority of students in a school and to reduce the number of children who later become at-risk for reading, math, and behavior problems.
Tier Two is grounded in scientifically based reading/math/behavior research. The program and classroom instruction should address strategic interventions for students at risk for reading, math, and or behavior problems.
Tier Three is grounded in scientifically based reading /math/behavior research. The program and instruction should address intensive interventions for students at risk for reading, math, and or behavior problems.
